Dental Implants

Dental implants have become the preferred choice for tooth replacement treatment.

What you should know

Implants are embedded into the jawbone and act as the root, a screw (known as an abutment) is screwed into the implant with the screw head above the jawbone level. The crown is then cemented or screwed to the abutment.
There are hundreds of dental implant brands all around the world. Some brands are of a higher quality and some are known as ’value’. Read our blog article on dental implant brands.
Here at Dentalinc our clinic only uses implants from the Straumann Group, the world’s leading implant brand.
For all implant work, a dental tomography is taken, free of charge, that will allow for precision implantation.
Most of the time, implant treatment will require 2 separate visits, the initial treatment of loading the implant and the 2nd visit to be 2 or more months after to check the implant bonding with the jaw bone and crown/bridge placements.
There may be instances whereby a patient’s jawbone may be receding or is not dense enough to enable an implant to bond with it. In such instances bone grafting to enhance the strength of the bone may be applied.

Crowns / Bridges

Crowns and bridges are artificial teeth placed either on an abutment or on drilled down teeth. Veneers are thin sheets placed on top of existing teeth.

What you should know

Crowns, bridges and veneers can be made from different materials, advanced technology allowing for a multitude of combinations. However, the main components can be summarised as follows:
- Zirconia
- Ceramic
- Porcelain (metal supported)
Prices differ due to the price of the raw materials, its associated quality and technician costs.
Not all materials are suitable for certain parts/type teeth, for example zirconia is hard, strong and durable. Some practitioners believe porcelain to be more aesthetic.
New technologies are evolving daily providing more choice and comfort to the patient.
A full mouth restoration should take approximately 10 days from start to finish, involving 3 or 4 visits to the clinic.
Our clinic has an in-house dental laboratory staffed by skilled technicians. This benefits the patient through time saving and lower costs.

Teeth Whitening

The ‘in-office’ bleaching system is used as opposed to the ‘home’ system. The in-office system usually takes about 1 hour of laser treatment and the results should last for 3-4 years.

Materials Used

The importance of the quality of dental materials used cannot be overstated.

At our clinic, for dental implants we only use implants from the Straumann Group, the world’s leading implant brand, Straumann and Medentika.
Over 30 years of clinical evidence and scientific journals written, Straumann implants have continuously and consistently been ranked the best performing dental implants in the world.
For bone grafting the clinic uses the high quality Botiss range of grafts, membranes and collegen.
For crowns, the zirconia that is used is from the Straumann Group, ceramics and veneers are IPS and Ivoclar and any metal supported work is from Bego.
